According to an article in the Las Vegas Sun newspaper, Dixie's painted plaster bust was one of the sculptural busts of stars of the bump and grind that were on display in “Breast Defense: Glamour Girls for Early Detection” at the Fallout Gallery on Commerce Street, Las Vegas, for 2008's Exotic World weekend.

Gilda and Her Crowning Glory

Today Burlesque Babes presents the lovely Gilda and Her Crowning Glory.

She was originally child star Shirley Jean Rickert (now Shirley Jean Measures), and is best known for her role in The Little Rascals series.

Born in 1926, according to the wikipedia page on Gilda.

• Gilda has her own website, "Gilda and her Crowning Glory", where she writes:

"After my stint on the Little Rascals, I became "Gilda and her Crowning Glory" in the heyday of burlesque. I performed all over the United States and Canada and was a regular at Minsky's. "

A little bio/history:
Shirley Jean Rickert was a child actress with "Our Gang". She later appeared in "Neath Arizona Skies" with John Wayne and "Singing in the Rain" with Gene Kelly . When the Hollywood studios stopped making musicals Shirley went to "The Follies" burlesque theatre to dance in the chorus. She then became "Gilda, and her Crowning Glory" where she spent quite a few years traveling the burlesque theatre and night club circuit all over the states and Canada.

Fascinating Jennifer

• "The Fascinating Jennifer — Jennifer was invited to dance in the chorus line of the Casino Burlesque Theatre in Boston when it re-opened in 1954. After learning stage presence, she was asked to do a solo striptease routine, which was of no interest to the young dancer until AFTER Sequin came to the theatre and performed. Watching Sequin's routine, which contained no bumps and grinds, Jennifer began creating her own costumes and routines and frequently filled in on stage when needed thereafter. In 1957, "The Fascinating Jennifer," toured on the Bryan & Engle circuit as a co-feature, and by 1958, performed as a feature, continuing to work in burlesque theatres until her retirement in 1963."

The Ladybirds Topless Band

Today Burlesque Babes presents the lovely Ladybirds.

• "Meet the all-girl band that hailed from New Jersey in the mid-1960's."
• They also spelled the band's name as The Ladybyrds.

I found lots of mentions of the band on the web:

• They toured with the Yardbirds in 1968:
• New Yardbirds Scandinavian Tour
• Apparently without playing their instruments, as the argenteumastrum.com website writes:
• SEPTEMBER 8 - FJORDVILLA CLUB PARAMOUNT, ROSKILDE, DENMARK (SUNDAY, LATE SHOW). Support from The Ladybirds, an all girl topless go-go dancing team.

I think it's safe to say these are NOT the same Ladybirds group that appeared regularly on the Benny Hill show although I am sure he would have enjoyed them.

• Newsday magazine did an interview about noted golfer Raymond Floyd, June 15, 2004, and it mentions that :
• "Raymond Floyd has been a lot of colorful things during his 40-year golf career - big-time PGA Tour winner and high-stakes hustler, playboy/bar owner and backer of an all-female topless band called the Ladybirds during his hell-raising bachelor days."
  
• Appeared in the film THE WILD, WILD WORLD OF JAYNE MANSFIELD (1968)
• Review quote on the Bijou Cafe site:
• "Lots of nude and semi-nude women, including the Ladybirds, an incredible all-topless band." -- Paul Petroskey

• "thing to look for, is the female band, The Ladybirds. They built their reputation by playing Nude, and appear in several versions of this, buck naked. The most common tape removes them entirely, though the first release has all the footage. I have been told that other, unauthorized re-issues, fall somewhere between these extremes. but if your copy doesn't have a naked band, it is cut."

• She was born Necla Batir in Turkey, 1933. Appeared in a few movies, most notably Son of Sinbad. Known as a belly dancer, did some Burlesque as well. Known as "The Exquisite Turkish Delight". Died in 1965, only 32, so she had a short but successful career.
